Arden is a small brass wall light with a milky glass globe held out on a slim pencil arm, and it does the classic mid-century trick of looking expensive while taking up almost no room. The opal glass softens the bulb into an even glow with no visible filament, so it is comfortable to sit beside and kind to a bedroom at night.

At 32cm tall, 15cm wide and around 13cm deep, it is sized for tight spots: either side of a bed in place of table lamps, along a narrow hallway, flanking a bathroom mirror in a dry zone, or above a reading chair. The brass arm and backplate warm up against white, green and deep blue walls alike, and pairs look particularly good.

It takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb, not included, so a warm 2700K globe or a dimmable LED can be fitted to taste. It runs on 110-120V or 220-240V mains. This is a hardwired fixture and should be installed by a qualified electrician. Clean the glass with a soft damp cloth and the brass with a dry one; avoid abrasive polish. Loom Row suggests mounting it so the globe sits just above shoulder height when you are sitting up in bed, which keeps the light on the page and out of your eyes.
